Charles Persson

Meet Charles Persson, a Business Analyst working with the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI).

Since May last year Persson has worked with SICCI as a Business Analyst working closely with the management and the Board on planning and strategy.

He has been in Honiara on assignment with the Australian Volunteers International, funded by the Australian Government.

Early in the year, the SICCI Board approved extending his role with the Chamber and he will continue working closely with the management team and the board in providing strategic support, planning including coaching the team. He will work closely with the CEO and the secretariat team.

SICCI CEO Dennis Meone acknowledged Persson’s invaluable contribution to the organization noting that Persson brings with him a wealth of experience and technical knowledge that the Chamber has been privileged to access.

“As a team, we have been very lucky to work with Charles because not so often you get to learn from a guru in project management,” says Meone.

Persson’s background includes working in operations and general management in the renewable energy and in the building construction industries.

Persson says he has been lucky to have lived and worked in a number of locations in Australia with his career taking him to Italy, South Africa, Taiwan, and Malaysia.

SICCI has received a lot of positive feedback on its increased visibility, constructive relationship building with the government, engagement with its members and involvement with social responsibility activities.

“I feel a great sense of achievement being part of a fantastic team,” said Persson.

“The next 12 months is all about delivering the business plan. Everyone in the team has contributed to the plan and they know what their role is and what needs to be done.

“The two key objectives for 2017 are formalising the platform to advocate private sector issues with government and to deliver improved services to our members.

“The business people in Solomon Islands demonstrate outstanding character and optimism. It is not always easy doing business here, however my view is that there will be continued growth leading to opportunities for increased employment and for an environment where young entrepreneurs can emerge.

“It is so satisfying to end my volunteer assignment at SICCI’s Annual General Meeting to be held this week Wednesday and I am grateful to the CEO, Dennis Meone, and Board for this opportunity.”
