The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) in partnership with the Institute of Directors, NZ (IODNZ) will be undertaking a Directorship Programme aimed at corporate discipline from the 30th July to 2nd August 2018 in Honiara.
The programme offers a comprehensive introduction to international best practice in corporate governance, strategy, finance, risk and assessing performance.
SICCI Chair, Jay Bartlett acknowledged the significance of the governance training, noting that strategic clarity at the Board level can go a long way in influencing positive change at the operational level.
IODNZ are sending three facilitators who are well qualified to deliver the programme. There will also be a session on Solomon Islands company and insolvency law and related legislation delivered by a Solomon Islands corporate lawyer.
This course is aimed at private sector executive and non-executive directors, senior executives reporting to boards, and owners of private or family companies.
Advisor to SICCI, Charles Persson, stated: “I look forward to seeing the programme delivered for what is a first of a type in the Solomon Islands relating to promoting excellence in governance and professional development through education and training”.
This is the first time for a programme of this nature to be hosted in the Solomon Islands, and it is a milestone event which SICCI will continue to host next year and into the future.
The programme has been strongly supported with 25 participants confirmed. Participants are Directors, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and General Managers (GMs) with companies from construction, tourism, agribusiness, industrial goods, infrastructure, fisheries, utilities, and telecommunications industries.
Also, three State Own Enterprises (SOEs) will be sending in participants to attend the programme.
The Programme will go a long way to ensure improved corporate governance and discipline in boardrooms.
There is strong support from key stakeholders including the government in realising that there is a need to improve decision making and leadership within boardrooms.
SICCI Advisor, Mr Persson further added that “at SICCI we have a vision to one day establish an Institute of Directors Solomon Islands as a platform for ongoing capacity building and upskilling of the next generation of leaders.”
